The National Conciliation and Mediation Board, together with the Ormoc Hotels and Retaurants Association (OHRA), hosted the seminar on Employee Discipline to hotel and restaurant workers in Ormoc City.
“Most employers in general prefer not to discipline their employees because it is unpleasant,” said Supervising LEO Rico Babalcon, who delivered the 2-hour talk on employee discipline. “Nevertheless, having a disciplinary policy in the workplace is indispensable,” he stressed.
OHRA President Amparo Tan encouraged its member establishments to allow NCMB to visit their establishments and talk on the topic. According to Kangleon, discipline is important because employers expect a certain type of behavior from their employees. “Employers cannot achieve the goals they set out if their employees are problematic,” she said.
Dir. Gemma R. Poloyapoy gave her appreciation the participants from the hotels, resorts and restaurants in the city. “We want to improve our service to our workers and employers all over Region 8 by providing new topics relevant to the improvement of employee-employer relations, ” Poloyapoy said. “We hope to replicate this activity to other establisments in the region,” she added.
She likewise explained the program of the NCMB for those participants who were new and was hearing about the NCMB for the first time.
